Why not tell people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?

I was just on the phone with a long-time DeliveryMark client...

In a friendly way he raised his voice and said

"Why aren't you telling people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?!!!" 

(That deserved 3 exclamation points because he said it with such passion.)

He continued...

“We know it's easy to use.”
 “We know it tracks the locations of deliveries.”
“We know it allows you to collect signatures.”
“We know it allows you to take photos.”
“And we know it automatically creates a Proof of Delivery Document.”

(Note: He as speaking so quickly I had a hard time remembering all he had said...  I do specifically remember the next things he said...)

Again he said “Why not tell people you're environmentally friendly? It's paperless! I do not have to use paper for my deliveries!  Between the BOL and other documents, I used to have 10 pieces of paper per delivery.  I often lost them.  Now everything is electronic! “

“My office is much more organized. There are no longer piles of paper on my desk!”
 
“And my kids told me by not using paper, I am saving trees! “  

Note: His kids were in the background during the entire call.  He later admitted it was their idea to call and point out the environmentally friendly aspect of going paperless with DeliveryMark.

I just listened.  I really did not need to add anything to his monologue. He had a good point and we will start mentioning that DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly!

Landscape Construction and DeliveryMark

We recently received an email from a Landscape Construction company that was interested in using DeliveryMark.

They explained that they transport and install / plant expensive trees, bushes, stone, sod, and soil (product) for office buildings and residences.   There had been some miscommunications and logistics issues that had taken place. These issues often involved large clients and large volumes of expensive products.

Success Story Using DeliveryMark - Corporate Job And Entrepreneur

Here's another success story using DeliveryMark. This was a long story but here is the summary…

We heard from a man in his late 40’s who was about to be laid off.  He had worked for the same company for 20+ years and the company needed to down-size.  Unfortunately, he was one of the people who had to be let go.  He had 30 days notice of his last day and he had some severance pay.

Taking Control of His Career - Starting a Delivery Business

Last week I had a conversation with young man in his late 20’s.  Nice guy. Outdoors guy who likes to hike, skateboard, bike, camp, etc…  He graduated from college and, based upon our conversation, sounds intelligent and ambitious.

Like many people his age, he was unsure of his career-path, but is certain he needs to make more money. 

He had been working as a mortgage broker.  As expected, his income was dependent upon the real estate market, interest rates, the economy, etc.   Regardless of how hard he worked, he never knew how much, or little, money he would make during a given month.  He wanted to take control of his career.

He had contemplated doing Uber or Lyft. Upon doing some research, he thought it better to leverage the local friends and acquaintances, and start a delivery / courier business.

Sales / Marketing Tip from a DeliveryMark User

Lately we’ve had large group of delivery company startups using the DeliveryMark Delivery App.

One in particular was very creative with his sales and marketing strategy. (He gave us permission to share his strategy.)

He signed up for DeliveryMark before he had his clients.

He targeted various retail stores who may want to start making deliveries. 

For certain companies, ones he felt could give him a large volume of deliveries, he would create a DeliveryMark Proof-of-Delivery (POD) document to show them during his sales pitch.   

How?

Using DeliveryMark, he would create a sample delivery for the company, using the company as the “Customer” and the “Origin” of the delivery.  Then he would use the DeliveryMark app like a driver would, and simulated the delivery.  The resulting POD would look like a real delivery took place for the company.

He would have this POD on his tablet when he visited the potential client. (Often he would print the POD before he visited them.) During the course of the conversation, he would show them the POD.  They were typically impressed and often agreed to try his delivery service.

His creative strategy really helped him get his business started. 

He now uses DeliveryMark for all his deliveries.

Every now and then, when he wants to prospect a large potential client, he will create a POD for them and use it in his sales pitch.

We just received a complimentary call from a 3-driver Courier / Delivery Company.

Young Entrepreneur Starts Successful Delivery Business Using DeliveryMark

We had a conversation this week a young entrepreneur using the DeliveryMark App and website to start a local delivery business.  It’s not a large business, yet, but he’s working on it.

He leveraged his relationships with local businesses and made deals to make local deliveries for a general store, a dry cleaner, a pet store, a pizza parlor store, and a flower shop.  The flower shop and pizza parlor had offered deliveries, but the other businesses had not previously offered deliveries.

 The businesses use DeliveryMark to request deliveries. As deliveries take place, the business owners can track the statuses of the deliveries.  They also receive proof-of-delivery documents upon completion of the deliveries.

He started the business by (a) creating deals with local store owners, (b) having his SUV for transportation, and (c) using the DeliveryMark Delivery App on his Android device. (Note: The DeliveryMark app works on IOS/Apple phones and devices, and Android phones and devices.)

“You Should Tell People They Can Track Their Trucks!”

I just received a call from a dispatcher who uses DeliveryMark.  He was happy with DeliveryMark and loved receiving the proof-of-delivery documents.

He then said to me “You should tell people they can track their trucks using DeliveryMark!”

I paused. This was over the phone so he couldn’t see the surprised look on my face. “Huh?”

Retail Store Takes Control of their Deliveries and Customers

Yesterday we spoke with a recent DeliveryMark registrant and user.  She’s a florist and had read our post called “Deliveries. Your Business. Your Brand.”    She (“Sue”) immediately signed up for DeliveryMark. (She had previously used an outside service for her deliveries.)

Sue and two employees work in the shop. She made it sound like it was a busy shop.  She registered for DeliveryMark and downloaded the app onto her cell phone.  She played with it and got familiar with it.  She personally made the first delivery that day. 

She found it was easy to use the app. Sue felt comfortable that her people would immediately understand how to use the app and have no problems making deliveries.  She had them download the DeliveryMark app.

After a few days Sue left the outside service and had her employees start handling all local deliveries.

She likes the idea of “her people” interacting with customers.  They always give out a business card (magnet) to the people.  She emphasized to her people to be personable and polite to the customers. She feels good about this change and feels it will be good for her business.

Deliveries. Your Business. Your Brand.

You run a retail business.  It’s a competitive marketplace and your customers are important to you.  

How do you differentiate yourself to customers?  Better pricing?  Great customer service? Promotions?  New and trendy items or products?

Hey, whatever is working and is successful for you, keep doing it.  And keep testing new ‘stuff’...  Afterall, you know your business better than anyone else.  You also know the effort it takes to acquire new customers and keep current customers happy. It’s not easy.

How about offering deliveries?  

Make it convenient for your customers to purchase from you.  Increase that lifetime value of that customer! Depending upon what you sell, it may make sense to offer deliveries.

If your customers are local, there seems to be various ways to offer deliveries.   

A. One way is to use one of those big online systems that are very ‘trendy’ and popular right now. You can digitally request a delivery and they will have someone come, pick up your product, and have it delivered to the customer.  But…

That’s the easy way out but not necessarily the best thing for your business. Using them, you don’t know who is making the delivery and how they will treat your customer. These delivery people are basically just trying to complete as many deliveries as possible. They do not care about your business.  Remember,  these delivery people are a reflection on you, your business and your brand. When they show up at the destination with your product they represent you.

B. The better way is to handle the delivery yourself.  When I say yourself, I mean you or one of your employees.  

Every contact you have with a customer is an opportunity. A friendly delivery person makes your customer feel appreciated.  Treat them like they’re special. You can also have your delivery person present them with a promotion, coupon, or other message. You control the relationship with your customer.

When you have one of these outside delivery services make a delivery for you, you are losing control of your customer.  Who is the driver? It seems like a quick and easy solution, but, in the long run, you want to control the relationship with your customer.

How to add Deliveries? Have a car or truck? Have a responsible, friendly, personable employee? You know your business. Think about what you need to offer deliveries. It should not be difficult. We suggest speaking to your attorney and insurance agent to make sure you are not overlooking anything.

Proof-Of-Delivery Document proves his driver did not cause damage

A happy DeliveryMark Delivery App client sent us this email.  He quickly resolved an issue by presenting the Proof-Of-Delivery Document to the client, to prove his driver did not damage the delivery.

I saw the email you posted from the company that used your proof of delivery to help them get paid.

We had a similar but different situation with a client.  We picked up some boxes for a delivery and one of them was damaged.  At pickup, our driver took a photo of it and made a comment using the app.

The manager at the destination called and questioned us about that one particular box.  We sent him a copy of the epod and he immediately dropped the matter.

I wish we had started using it sooner because we’ve had other similar instances of customers questioning damages on our deliveries.

I’d just like to share a recent experience we had -

We recently made a delivery for one of our newer clients.  We noticed a few of the boxes were dented when we picked them up so we took photos at both the origin and destination, using the app.

The delivery took place on schedule. Nothing unusual.   Everything seemed OK.

Fast forward a few weeks. The client was overdue with the payment so I called him to  see if there was an oversight with our payment.

He claimed our delivery person dented the boxes. He requested we discount the cost of the delivery.  I politely said No and hung up the phone. I then forwarded a copy of his proof-of-delivery document, containing the photos, to him.  I called him back and he agreed to pay the entire amount.
