Pricing for courier, delivery, and trucking apps and software

On one of the software websites, we scrolled through a list of courier, delivery, and trucking software/app providers. We looked at each company’s websites to compares prices.

Using Our First Delivery App – And Loving It

We received a long email from a DeliveryMark client. Here are some parts of it...

… It took us a long time but we made the commitment to start using a delivery app.

We use the DeliveryMark Delivery App for all our deliveries

We’re a small delivery service with 5 drivers. We would typically print and hand a BOL to them or, if they were out on the road, we’d text them with the details of the delivery.

In cases where we printed the BOL for the driver, often we would be delayed getting the signed paperwork back from our driver. Other times we may never receive the signed paperwork. Yet other times, with all the paper in our office, we would misplace the paperwork.

In cases where we had to text our drivers, we had no formal paperwork! The drivers carried a paper form to complete, and when they made the delivery, collected signatures, dated and put the time on the paperwork.

One day we had an incident that finally convinced us to start using a Delivery app. …

Two days after a delivery, we received an angry call from a large, normally reasonable client. They had received a delivery and the boxes, and contents of the boxes, were damaged. Our driver said he had returned the paperwork to us, but we could not find it. We had no proof or documentation to even contest the client’s accusations.

In the spirit of goodwill and keeping a large client happy, we did not charge them for the delivery. We also paid for the damage of contents of the boxes. We always try to do-the-right-thing by our clients…. But in this case it was financially painful to our organization.

We started looking for an affordable solution for us to (a) track deliveries and (b) create a proof-of-delivery document.

We found DeliveryMark. After having a demo, we decided to start using it.

Our drivers immediately understood how to use the DeliveryMark Delivery App. They like the convenience of immediately receiving their order, being able to collect signatures, take photos, etc… and having all the information automatically sent to our office. They no longer have to keep track of paperwork and bring it to the office. (They really like and have commented multiple times about not having to manually return the paperwork to the office.)

The drivers have little reason to come to the office! They can be at home or out on the road, and receive their orders. They can go to-and-from deliveries more efficiently.

We also like DeliveryMark because we can track the locations of our drivers and make better business decisions based upon the locations.

… I guess I’m kinda rambling but DeliveryMark has been good for us!

We are more efficient, and while we have not had to use the proof-of-delivery document to contest questions on a delivery, we use it for record keeping and… we know it’s there in case we need it!

Diversifying Your Courier / Delivery Business To Avoid Downturns In Industries

We enjoy speaking with our clients/friends. They provide us feedback on, not only DeliveryMark, but also interesting information on the delivery- or transportation economy.

More and more DeliveryMark clients are expanding and diversifying their types-of-deliveries.

It makes sense. They’re hedging and lessening the effects of downturns in industries.

Let’s use an example where a courier does a high volume of work in the real estate industry. If the real estate market slows, attorneys’ paperwork, mortgage documents, appraisals, and related items will lessen in volume and then your volume of your work will decrease. (If you have many clients in this industry.)

With that same van / fleet (as an example), you can also be delivering food, dry cleaning/laundry, small equipment, produce, furniture, various types of freight, etc…

A common theme among these clients is “asking for referrals.” They ask for referrals. And often, they give the client a discount on their next delivery (if they refer a new client.)

Deliveries Get Made In All Types Of Weather

We have been receiving many emails and comments from people with stories about making deliveries in storms, rain, snow, extreme heat & cold, and other difficult type of weather.

Do consumers, or people receiving these deliveries, appreciate the effort? Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Realistically, they are probably unaware of what’s involved with making deliveries…

As we do our Saturday errands in the midst of a major thunderstorm, we were passed by a courier in a Sprinter Van. Even through the visibility is near zero, the weather isn’t stopping him.

Why not tell people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?

I was just on the phone with a long-time DeliveryMark client...

Go paperless. Use the DeliveryMark Delivery App.

In a friendly way he raised his voice and said

"Why aren't you telling people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?!!!"

(That deserved 3 exclamation points because he said it with such passion.)

He continued...

“We know it's easy to use.”
“We know it tracks the locations of deliveries.”
“We know it allows you to collect signatures.”
“We know it allows you to take photos.”
“And we know it automatically creates a Proof of Delivery Document.”

(Note: He as speaking so quickly I had a hard time remembering all he had said... I do specifically remember the next things he said...)

Again he said “Why not tell people you're environmentally friendly? It's paperless! I do not have to use paper for my deliveries! Between the BOL and other documents, I used to have 10 pieces of paper per delivery. I often lost them. Now everything is electronic! “

“My office is much more organized. There are no longer piles of paper on my desk!”

“And my kids told me by not using paper, I am saving trees! “

Note: His kids were in the background during the entire call. He later admitted it was their idea to call and point out the environmentally friendly aspect of going paperless with DeliveryMark.

I just listened. I really did not need to add anything to his monologue. He had a good point and we will start mentioning that DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly!

Entrepreneur Shares His Insight / Delivery Business Owner

We speak with many of our DeliveryMark clients. They deliver a wide variety of “items” (paperwork, freight, food, livestock, etc.) and they have unique stories of how they started and run their delivery businesses.

Recently we spoke with a DeliveryMark client who, 12 months ago, started a delivery business. It wasn’t his first business. He has many years of experience running businesses he’s owned, as well as working for other people.

He’s came across as energetic and enthusiastic. He expressed the pluses and minuses of being a business-owner versus working for someone else.

The one point that kept being expressed is - when you own your own business, everything is your responsibility… it is your business… you reap the rewards… AND No one can take it from you!

You don’t come in Monday morning and have a boss tell you you’re out of a job. You don’t find out the company has been sold and you’re out of a job. Etc…

It's hard work but it's rewarding. You may succeed or you may fail but no one can take it from you!

It sounded like his mantra. He said it at least 5 times! He had a good point.

... So he started a delivery business and it's been growing every month!

Gardening Center - Bird House Delivery Using DeliveryMark

A few months ago I had visited a local gardening and landscaping center. They made daily deliveries of soil, stone, garden decorations, and other items they sell to consumers.

I had given them my business card and had a quick conversation with them regarding the benefits of using DeliveryMark; assigning deliveries, tracking, collecting signatures, proof-of-delivery documents, and more. They seemed somewhat interested but wasn’t sure they would take the next steps.

A few weeks later we had noticed they had registered for DeliveryMark but had not started using it. We called the owner and arranged a quick online demo. Once we showed it to him, he “got it” immediately and said he was going to start using it, with two of his five drivers, this week.

It worked well for the first two drivers and now all five drivers use it on a daily basis.

Landscape Construction and DeliveryMark

We recently received an email from a Landscape Construction company that was interested in using DeliveryMark.
