Diversifying Your Courier / Delivery Business To Avoid Downturns In Industries

We enjoy speaking with our clients/friends.  They provide us feedback on, not only DeliveryMark, but also interesting information on the delivery- or transportation economy.

More and more DeliveryMark clients are expanding and diversifying their types-of-deliveries.  

It makes sense. They’re hedging and lessening the effects of downturns in industries.

Let’s use an example where a courier does a high volume of work in the real estate industry. If the real estate market slows, attorneys’ paperwork, mortgage documents, appraisals, and related items will lessen in volume and then your volume of your work will decrease. (If you have many clients in this industry.)

With that same van / fleet (as an example), you can also be delivering food, dry cleaning/laundry, small equipment, produce, furniture, various types of freight, etc…

A common theme among these clients is “asking for referrals.”  They ask for referrals. And often, they give the client a discount on their next delivery (if they refer a new client.)

Deliveries Get Made In All Types Of Weather

We have been receiving many emails and comments from people with stories about making deliveries in storms, rain, snow, extreme heat & cold, and other difficult type of weather.

Do consumers, or people receiving these deliveries, appreciate the effort?  Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.  Realistically, they are probably unaware of what’s involved with making deliveries…

As we do our Saturday errands in the midst of a major thunderstorm, we were passed by a courier in a Sprinter Van.   Even through the visibility is near zero, the weather isn’t stopping him.

Your clients can now complete a form and have the order sent to your DeliveryMark system.  You, the delivery company, courier, transporter, etc... will (a) see the order in your system, and (b) receive an email notifying you about the order. 

• You can give the order form to your clients so they can place orders.

• You can link to the form from your website.

Why not tell people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?

I was just on the phone with a long-time DeliveryMark client...

In a friendly way he raised his voice and said

"Why aren't you telling people DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly?!!!" 

(That deserved 3 exclamation points because he said it with such passion.)

He continued...

“We know it's easy to use.”
 “We know it tracks the locations of deliveries.”
“We know it allows you to collect signatures.”
“We know it allows you to take photos.”
“And we know it automatically creates a Proof of Delivery Document.”

(Note: He as speaking so quickly I had a hard time remembering all he had said...  I do specifically remember the next things he said...)

Again he said “Why not tell people you're environmentally friendly? It's paperless! I do not have to use paper for my deliveries!  Between the BOL and other documents, I used to have 10 pieces of paper per delivery.  I often lost them.  Now everything is electronic! “

“My office is much more organized. There are no longer piles of paper on my desk!”
 
“And my kids told me by not using paper, I am saving trees! “  

Note: His kids were in the background during the entire call.  He later admitted it was their idea to call and point out the environmentally friendly aspect of going paperless with DeliveryMark.

I just listened.  I really did not need to add anything to his monologue. He had a good point and we will start mentioning that DeliveryMark is environmentally friendly!
